Everything Cool in Portugal
Pap’Açorda opened it’s doors in 1981 and quickly became the fashionable place for traditional Portuguese food in Lisbon. Still today, the restaurant is a favorite among locals and attracts a high-profile crowd. Located in the trendy neighborhood of Bairro Alto, Pap’Açorda is the first collaboration of noted Lisbon restauranteurs José Miranda and Fernando Fernandes (also co-owners of the enormously successful Bica da Sapato).

The name is taken from one of Portugal’s favorite dishes: Açorda – a shellfish stew thickened with bread and seasoned with garlic and coriander. Of course, at Pap’Açorda, this is a popular menu item. Try the, codfish açorda, or the house specialty, Açorda Real, made with lobster and shrimp.
It’s not all about açorda, though. The restaurant typically has about 12 daily suggestions, including many options for fresh fish. Also on the menu are shark soup, clams, roasted cod fish with potatoes and fried goat cheese Pap’Açorda-style. But, what seems to be the crowd-pleasure time-after-time, is the chocolate mousse, served at your table from a huge kitchen bowl!
Big velvet curtains at the front door and crystal chandeliers in the dining room create an enjoyable atmosphere. Combine this with great service and amazing food, and you have a perfectly exquisite dining experience
Extensive wine list.
Reservations highly recommended.
Price per person for a 3-course meal is about 50€.
