Cinco Lounge – Cosmopolitan Cocktail Culture at Its Best

The cocktail culture is alive and well in the form of Cinco Lounge.  This sleek and sophisticated nightspot is considered by many to be the best bar in Lisbon.  Located in Príncipe Real, just a short walk from the Bairro Alto, Cinco Lounge is a cool hangout to unwind in an uptown atmosphere while sipping on a perfectly blended beverage.

You could say owner and bartender Dave Palethorpe has cocktails in his blood.  He’s served up mixed drinks in trendy bars in London, Sydney and New York for years before opening Cinco Lounge in 2004.  His menu of over 100 cocktails include classics from the 20^th century, and inventive new concoctions he created in the new millennium.  Remember these oldies but goodies…?   


1900-1919:  Singapore Sling, Ward 8, Gibson, Sidecar
1920-1929:  Old Fashioned, Mint Julep, Between the Sheets, Bloody Mary
1930-1949:  Martinis, Mai Tai, Margarita
1950-1979:  Red Lion, Pina Colada, Daiquiri, Blue Monday
1980-2005:  Cosmopolitan, Right Said Fred, Evening Breeze, Espresso Martini


But, if your tastes thirst for something more from this decade, try one of these Cinco Lounge originals:  Green Destiny – concoction of fresh kiwi, cucumber, bison grass vodka and apple juice; or Joãpple -  bison grass vodka, puree of apple, cinnamon, hint of cinnamon syrup and pomme verde, shaken and strained into a martini glass.  If you’ve got a fat wallet or really want to impress your date, order the Black Amex (235€ per glass).  It’s a crystallized brown sugar cube dissolved in Hennessy VS Cognac and Cuvée du Centenaire Grand Marnier, and splashed with Dom Perignon.
