Pedro e o Lobo – New Hot Spot for Haute Cuisine in Lisbon

Although the name evokes images of the children’s story, Pedro e o Lobo (Peter and the Wolf) is a new restaurant in Lisbon for adult sophistication and tastes.

The space is a former art gallery on Rua do Salitre, not too far from Avenida da Liberdade, and stone’s throw from Principe Real.  The interior design, by Luis Baptista, integrates wood, concrete, metal and glass with vintage furnishing for a contemporary and minimal, yet earthy and comfortable, feel.

The dynamic duo of the kitchen may seem young, but they carry impressive CVs.  Diogo Noronha’s background includes stints at Pure Food & Wine and the Michelin-star Per Se in New York City, as well as Alkima and Moo in Barcelona.  Nuno Bergonse worked the kitchens at the Ritz Four Seasons, Colon and Michelin-star Eleven in Lisbon as well as Moo.

Together, they have created a menu that has its roots in Portuguese flavors, but explores all aspects of contemporary haute cuisine.  Consider grilled octopus salad or apple mayonnaise with island cheese.  For the main course, oxtail with mashed sweet potatoes and vanilla is their specialty.  Yet you might also choose monkfish with zucchini muffin or seabass with white beans and oysters.  For dessert, check out the tarte tatin or chocolate glaze with cardamom ice cream.  A tasting menu of seven courses is also available.   A wine list of region Portuguese wines completes the meal.

One of the best restaurants I’ve haver been to, and certainly the best in Portugal.
I go a lot of times to Portugal and have been to a lot of the most considered restaurants. This one has great quality and it’s not pretentious (something I find some of the other restaurants to be). I thought the food was very well thought and balanced and the wines were very reasonably priced! Lovely design and impeccable service, 5 stars! Keep up the good work!
