Everything Cool in Portugal
The magical village of Sintra, just outside Lisbon, is known for being the playground of Portuguese royalty, a Moorish fortress and a World Heritage site. It is also the location of an impressive collection of modern and contemporary art found at the Sintra Museum of Modern Art.

Housed in an ornate 1920’s building, formerly the Sintra Casino, the museum is one of several facilities holding the massive and expanding art collection of wealthy businessman José Berardo. Known for his love of art and wine, Berardo has amassed over 1000 pieces in a collection that is now one of the largest private collections in the world.
The collection has fine representations of very significant art movement of the 20th century. Works by such art superstars as Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, Piet Mondrian, Francis Bacon, René Magritte, Willem de Kooning, Henry Moore, Man Ray, Richard Serra, Jackson Pollack, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder and Fernando Botero are on display. Portuguese artists are represented by Paula Rego, Alberto Carneiro, Pepe Diniz, Fernando Calhau and Helena Almeida, to name a few.
