Everything Cool in Portugal
The full day of action continues into the evening with shows from Lanidor, Alexandra Moura, Maria Gambina and Nuno Baltazar.
Lanidor’s show features to concepts for Autumn/Winter 2012: luxury and elegance intended for everyday use, and classically executed design for beauty and comfort. For the former, sturdy fabrics are used in sculptural and cocoon inspired silhouettes. These designs use neutral and clear tones in combination with arctic white, matte black and dark red. Lanidor’s classic looks wide and casual, and presented in gray, nut brown, camel, ecru and green.

For 2012, Alexandra Moura is inspired by Native Americans’ views of Earth and Sky, and their characteristics of strength and innocence. Silhouettes evoke the Native American spirit. Geometrics seem native but adjusted for modern times. Furs are decorative, but as with the Indians, seem to be intended for protection from the elements. Collection features many wood colors, as well as grays, blacks, white, pale blue and ochre.
The theme for Maria Gambina’s collection is “Take Me Home”. The concept is meant to evoke the comfort of old fabrics at home such as worn blankets, tartan plaids and brocade. For women, there are variations of oversize and right size. For men, thick wool sweaters and v-neck pullovers, checkered scarves and corduroy seem 60’s mod. Gambina introduces us to her version of trench coats and bomber jackets.
Art Nouveau is the inspiration behind Nuno Baltazar for Autumn/Winter 2012, and more specifically the images created of women by artist Gustav Klimt. Like the paintings, Balatazar uses geometrics enriched with gold. Flowing fabrics of silk cady, satin, tulle, compact wool and metallic pailletes define the feminine silhouette. Saffron yellow, sepia, sanguine and ochre contrast with coal, lead and marine.
