Quiksilver Pro Portugal 2011 – 14-19 June, Ericeira

UPDATE:  Australian Julian Wilson has won Quiksilver Pro Portugal.  With combined 19.37 points in the final round, Wilson beat out Brazilian Gabriel Medina who had 12.83 points.  Hawaiian surfer John John Florence and Brazilain Miguel Pupo reached the semi-finals.

The first top-level European surf event of the 2011 season is upon us…and it’s in Portugal. The Quiksilver Pro Portugal takes place 14-19 June in Ericeira, near Lisbon. 96 international surfers are expected at the event. All are vying for a chance to win $250,000 in prize money.

The beach at Ribeira d’Ilhas will be home base for the event. Many surfers consider the wave here to be similar to popular Bells Beach in Australia.

Among those competing is national hero, Tiago Pires. He is originally from Ericeira and currently ranked 4th on the ASP World Tour. Tiago recently rejoined team Quiksilver, having started his career there. He will share top billing with his friend Jeremy Flores (Fra), also a member of team Quiksilver, number 9 in the world and 1st in Europe in 2010. Some key competitors in this competition will be:

Start of the QUIKSILVER PRO PORTUGAL ASP PRIME
(6:30 call for a possible 7:00 start)

Friday 17th June
22:00 – TIAGO PIRES BOARDRIDERS PARTY
Public party with live music, featuring Portuguese bands Humble and Fiacola. DJ Diego Miranda keeps the party going at midnight. Tiago Pires Boardriders: Avenida São Sebastião, 36 A. 2655-319 Ericeira

Saturday 18th June
23:00 – Public QUIKSILVER party at Ouriço

Sunday 19th June
Finals & Awards for the QUIKSILVER PRO PORTUGAL (Depending on the conditions the competition could finish before the 19th June.)
