Rockstars of gourmet cuisine in Portugal descend on Porto this weekend for the fifth edition of Essência do Gourmet (Essence of Gourmet). The finest flavors of Portugal will be presented for education, entertainment, tasting and buying. The historic Palacio da Bolsa is the setting for this celebration of food and wine, taking place 16, 17 and 18 of September.

In the Salão Arabe, the biggest names in Portuguese cuisine will show you how to prepare their favorite dishes. On stage will be none other than: Amaya Guterres, Fernando Santos, Filipa Vacondeus, Henrique Sá Pessoa, Igor Martinho, Justa Nobre, Ljubomir Stanisic, Nuno Diniz (com Pedro Ramos e António Ribeiro), Pedro Lemos, Rui Paula, Vítor Matos, Vítor Sobral.
Kids are tough food critics. For them, their food must look appealing. For parents, it must also be nutritious. The team at Nutrir train kids from 6-to12-years-old how to be Pirates in the Kitchen.
Taste, and buy, the Essence of Gourmet from one of numerous restaurateurs, gourmet shops and wine merchants. Oils, chocolates, preserves, jams, traditional sweets, sausages, pasta, cheeses…and wines…are there to please your palate.
Sample the best on offer at area signature restaurants, including: Don Juan, Rust, Gosch and Forty-Four. Fixed price tastings are available at €5.00, €7.00 and €14.00.

Caves Ferreira, in Vila Nova de Gaia, hosts the opportunity to learn more about and taste their Sogrape product from countries such as Argentina, Chile, New Zealand and Spain, of course, Portugal. Wines from their portfolio are paired with tapas prepared by chefs Fernando Santos (Solinca Catering), Luis Américo (Mesa, Porto) e Nuno Inverneiro (O Comercial, Porto). Guests may also select from “new world” wine themed tastings by expert guides, featuring: Finca Flichman (Argentina), Framingham (New Zealand) and Los Boldos (Chile).
