Festival Med 2012 – World Music Festival in Loulé 29 & 30 June

For the night year, the city of Loulé in the central Algarve hots the Festival Med International Music Festival. 18 bands from across the globe, from as near as Portugal and Spain and as far as Mail and Jamaica, will entertain crowds with traditional, ethnic and contemporary music. The event plays out over two nights, 29 & 30 June, under the warm southern Portugal night skies.

Festival Med is the abbreviated name of this event more formally known as the Mediterranean Festival. What started out as a celebration of sights, sounds and taste of Mediterranean culture, has evolved into one of the largest world music celebrations in Portugal.

Despite the grand staging of world music at the festival, there is still room on performance spaces around the city for music such as reggae, blues, samba and soul. Chamber and classical music can also be found here.

Those who like food as much as music will be happy too! Mediterranean flavors are celebrated with cuisines of Spain, Greece, Morocco, Egypt, Italy and of course Portugal, all available. Also, celebrity chef Chakall returns with a space of his own to dazzle, entertain and delight hungry guests.

Color and creativity are on display in the craft stalls lining the streets and alleys. Mediterranean-inspired crafts, from traditional to contemporary, are available. Visitors can browse through jewelry, textiles and clothing, as well as objects characteristic of various world cultures such as Aboriginal didgeridoos, the African djambés or water pipes, and tea services typical of the Maghreb countries.
