“We make your desk look fine!” This is the mantra of Fine & Candy, a unique Portuguese company intent on preserving the fine art and glamour of handwriting personal communications. Their line of artisanal notepads, diaries, graphite pencils, papers and stationery boxes, add a bit of luxury to your desktop as well as a personalized touch to your correspondence.
Fine & Candy incorporates centuries-old book-binding, and pencil and stucco manufacturing techniques, into products that are romantic, nostalgic, exquisite and modern. Their careful selection and use of noble materials, as well as details on the finishes and color combinations, make each product distinct in its craftsmanship.
Fine & Candy notebooks are distinguished mainly by their quality and customization. Each notebook is handmade in leather or fabric. Styles are classic or contemporary. Many are finished in fine gold or inlaid metal. Customer’s name or personal sentiment can be customized on these products, truly making them a unique gift. Notebooks prices are €12-25, diaries €30-35 and iPad cases €90-120.
Fine & Candy’s graphite pencils are produced in the oldest pencil factory in the Iberian Peninsula. All are produced by hand, with an occasional machine to optimize the process. Pencils are precisely coordinated with notebooks. 12 pencils come in one pack for €8-15.
The product line also features paperweights made of stucco. As a motif for this effort, Fine & Candy has adapted the “carranca.” Throughout the rivers of Brazil, the carranca, or carved animal head, adorned the bows of boats and protected boatmen from the river’s evil spirits. Now, Fine & Candy carrancas adorn your desk and protect you from writers block! Paperwieghts are €15.
Fine & Candy has a retail store in Porto. It is located on Rua do Rosario in the “artsy” Miguel Bombarda district. The store, in a 100-year-old building has been recently renovated to showcase this unique line of products.
