Óbidos Vila Natal – Christmas in the Castle, 7 December to 2 January
A winter wonderland in Portugal? It’s true! Once again, the charming walled city of Óbidos hosts Vila Natal (Christmas Town). Snowmen and elves hang out here. So do cake bakers and igloo makers. Even Santa keeps a holiday home inside the castle walls. If the holiday spirit is what you need, then sled, skate or ski over to Óbidos, 7 December to 2 January.

Vila Natal is full of surprises for the “kid” in all of us! Inside and outside the castle walls are shops, food stands, exhibitions, activities and shows. (Click here for a Map of Vila Natal 2012.)
If you’re a LEGO Fan, don’t miss the Space for Innovation and Creativity, by the entrance of the village of Obidos. It features an exhibition of the largest city built of LEGO bricks. The whole family will discover the adventures of Spark McQueen, Buz Lightyear, a mega city, and a medieval battle, among many adventures.
For puppet fans, Vila Natal presents “Fantastic Voyage to the World.” The show is a is a time-travel-themed trip of music, dance and humor, with lots of funny situations and even some romantic notes. Two talented puppeteers using hand puppets, marionettes and body costumes explore many adventures in the fantasy world.
Let the kids expel energy at the many winter-themed activities. There are inflatable houses and games, as well as pedal carts, ice skating rink, magic carousel, a long Alpine ice slide, and a Christmas labyrinth.
No doubt Santa’s House and Toy Factory will be a highlight. See where Santa’s busy little helpers are preparing and shipping gifts for good little boys and girls. In the Christmas Workshop, kids are transformed into characters with painted faces and styled hair.

Óbidos is accessible by car via Highway A8 (Lisbon-Leiria) or A15 (Santarém-Óbidos), as well as IP6 (Peniche-Óbidos). Take the following exits:
■ A8 North – Exit 16 – Gaeiras/Óbidos
■ A8 South – Exit 15 – Óbidos
