Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso is one of in a rather significant list of Portuguese modern artists. Returning from World War I in 1916, he organized a series of exhibitions of his avante-garde works in Lisbon and Porto. The images were considered scandalous and prompted discussion on their merit.
