Atlantic Festival in Madeira, June 2015 – Arts, Music & Fireworks

Summer 2015 has officially begun on the Island of Madeira. The Atlantic Festival is Madeira’s month-long celebration of arts, music and culture. Lots of fun scheduled throughout June, but certainly the highlights occur on Saturday nights with a major fireworks and music. The Atlantic Festival usually runs throughout the month of June.  (For 2020, unfortuately the festival is called off due to COVID-19.)

The first week of the festival is devoted to music. Classical concerts are planned for each day.

Region Arts Week takes place the second week.  Activities include a Garden Party, encounters with different art forms, sculptural art and ESCOLartes (Arts School) exhibition. Works can be found throughout Funchal in down Avenida Arriaga and at Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre, Municipal Gardens Auditorium and Madeira Tecnopólo, Sala Ursa Maior

Also this week is the Regional Bread Fair taking place at Largo da Restauração (Restoration Square).

However, it is the internationally famous fireworks pyromusical that is what entertains, inspires and awes visitors of the festival. The 20-minute show takes place every Saturday night in the Funchal harbor. The fireworks show is preceded and followed by a musical extravaganza.
