Significant names from Brazil’s modernism period are on display at the Berardo Museum in Lisbon. The works, spanning a period from 1920 to 1960, are on loan from the Fundação Edson Queiroz Collection in Forteleza. The institution holds one of the most substantial collections of Brazilian art in the country. Brazilian Modernism in the Fundação Edson Queiroz Collection runs through 11 February 2018.

The exhibition features works primarily from Brazilians, but also some foreigners residing in Brazil at the time. Most of the artists trained abroad in Europe or the United States. The works strongly reflect the modernism style taking hold of the art world during the early 20th century; yet, the subject matter is true to Brazilian culture and every day life. Some of the artists included in the exhibition include:

ALBERTO DA VEIGA GUIGNARD ■  AMILCAR DE CASTRO ■ EMILIANO DI CAVALCANTI ■ ISMAEL NERY ■ CANDIDO PORTINARI ■ JOSÉ PANCETTI ■ JUDITH LAUAND ■ LASAR SEGALL ■ SÉRVULO ESMERALDO ■ VICENTE DO RÊGO MONTEIRO
