Once again, the city of Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira celebrates Spring with a brilliant week-long spectacle. It’s the Madeira Festival of Flowers 2016, taking place 7-13 April. This year’s theme “Madeira – The Route of Flowers” pays tribute to the many centuries Funchal has been a port-of-call to international travelers.
Carnival season is here…and no one celebrates these pre-Lenten festivities quite like the city and people of Funchal on Madeira Island. For eight days, the city is decorated with in festive colors and lights. Residents and visitors alike flood the streets in brightly adorned costumes.

Summer 2012 has officially begun on the Island of Madeira. The Atlantic Festival is Madeira’s month-long celebration of arts, music and culture. Lots of fun scheduled throughout June, but certainly the highlights occur on Saturday nights with a major fireworks and music. The Atlantic Festival runs through 30 June.
Art Deco is an artistic movement beloved by international art collector José Berardo. He has acquired over 300 pieces in his collection, and many are on display through 29 September 2011 in the What a Wonderful World exhibition at the Calheta Casa das Mutas Centro das Artes.
