Already a fascinating structure, mixing historic with contemporary design, and a landmark hotel blending luxury and comfort, the Pousada de Cascais also intends to become a cultural center for aspiring artists and collectors of their works. Citadela Art District is the project that brings fine arts and performances to the former forteleza via a series of exhibitions. The public is invited to the opening of the next show on 21 May, between 18:00 and 22:00. Entrance is free.
Under the theme “Pousada Take-Over,” 13 simultaneous exhibition openings are hosted throughout the hotel. New works by artists Angela Ferreira (Portugal’s representative at the Venice Biennale), Mendes de Almeida, Ana Velez, João Noutel and Bruno Pereira are on display, as pieces by artists selected by João Prates of the Centro Português de Serigrafia, including: Adam James, Alexandra Barbosa, Ana Fonseca, Leonel Moura, Manuel d’ Olivares, Sofia Areal and Alcobia Telmo. Works already on display and included in the show are by Cristina Lucas, José Maçãs de Carvalho, Luís Alegre, José Luís Neto, Sandro Resende, Luís Nobre, Duarte Amaral Netto and Paulo Arraiano.
Four microconcerts, curated by Magnetic Magazine, are will take place in the Praça de Armas. Also, during the event, the documentary “Blue Pencil” by Rafael Antunes will be screened in the Cisterna da Citadela.
Many of the rooms at Pousada Cascais have been transformed into “signature” rooms, with art works and design inspired by these individual artists. Because of this close association to the artistic community and its commitment to nourish the creative process, Pousada Cascais has adopted the name “Cidadela Historic Hotel & Art District.”
