Faz Gostos was one of the first Algarvian restaurants we featured on Portugal Confidential.  Recently, we returned to the restaurant in the historic old town of Faro to find that popularity has not diminished, nor has the quality of delicious international and Portuguese cuisine.  Prominent locals as well as foreign tourists book in advance to enjoy Faz Gostos’ modern take on traditional favorites.

The menu offers a generous choice of dishes with emphasis on Algarvian-sourced fish and seafood, as well as nationally-produced beef, pork and duck. Some highlights from the menu include:

■ Xarém (cornmeal porridge) with clams
■ Scallop and salmon carpaccio
■ Lobster bisque in puff pastry
■ Stuffed squid served with mashed potatoes
■ Bacalhau (codfish) gratin with corriander
■ Prawn fricassé with pinenut rice
■ Hake fillets with açorda (bread purée with garlic)
■ Flambéed crepe suzette
■ Apple tart with ovos moles
