Celebrating 15 years of sand sculptures! It’s FIESA 2017, the International festival of Sand Sculptures in Pêra, Algarve. Over 45 thousand tons of sand is spread out over 15,00m2 of outdoor exhibition space. Sculptors shape and carve the sand into entertaining, whimsical and amazing people, places and scenes. FIESA is open through 31 October.

Seven Arts is the theme for this year’s exhibition, with more than 80 scenes illustrating theater, dance, music, literature, architecture, painting, sculpture, cinema, comics, photography, television, design, crafts and gastronomy. Some highlights include a fresco by Miguel Ângelo incorporating sculptures by Picasso and Dalí, heroes from children’s animation, films scenes by Manuel Oliveira and the writer José Saramago.

Unique to this year is the new concept of a “sand city” where visitors can enjoy new experiences during the exhibition, such as performing workshops of various arts, watching shows on a 360º sand stage, taking guided tours or relaxing In an icicle spa.

Guests can visit the park during the day or at night, when the exhibitions are illuminated with dramatic lighting.
