If it was possible, Avenida da Liberdade, the designer shopping street in Lisbon, just got cool-er. Actually, the French might say, the boulevard has a certain “Je ne sais quoi” (a special quality).  This is due to the opening of a tres chic new space in the former Teatro Tivoli and part of the Fashion Clinic Man store at No. 182.  It is JNĉQUOI, a multi-level space housing a deli, fine restaurant, a French bakery, gourmet market, and men’s fashions.

Not far from the entrance is unique site in Lisbon: Portugal’s first counter for famed French macaroon purveyor Ladurée.  Choose from the array of delicious macaroons, or select some delectable handmade chocolates, places delicately in the classic green and gold box.

On the middle floor is Delibar, an open social place for nibbling on light meals, such as salads, Algarvian oysters, regional cheeses, grouper ceviche and sliced meats.  It also serves as an opportunity to taste many of Portugal´s delightful, limited-production wines. In the evening, Delibar´s personality changes slightly to become a swanky cocktail lounge.

Around Delibar is a gourmet market, so you can take cheeses, meats and unique sauces home with you.

Also on this floor is a boutique for Assouline, the publisher of fine books on art, fashion, travel, architecture and design.

The restaurant on the top floor (pictures at top) is a grand room with high ceilings, and a décor that blends classic elements with modern style.  A large skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex in the center of the room is no doubt an artistic statement and the topic of many conversations.

Chef Anónio Bóia is in the kitchen designing preparing a meal as classic and cool as the dining room. Traditional dishes such as Iberian pork medallions and truffle tagliolini are prepared with contemporary flair.  Desserts incorporate the decadent goodness of the Ladurée bakery.

To satisfy your urge to shop, visit the Fashion Clinic Men’s boutique.  This unique concept store for men features fashions, shoes and accessories from such designers as: DSquared2, Christian Louboutin, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Balmain, Saint Laurent, Givenchy and Valentino.

Reservations recommended for the restaurants. Average price per person at Delibar is €30; at the restaurant, about €40. For more information, visit the JNĉQUOI website.
