Municipal Museum of Faro

The Faro Municipal Museum was established in 1894. It resides in a 16th century building of the former Convent of Our Lady of the Assumption. A collection of 17th and 19th century artwork from Portuguese, Italian and Spanish painters are on display along with sacred artifacts from churches in the region. The museum also houses significant archaeological pieces integrating prehistory, Roman and medieval periods. Examples of Roman mosaics are on display as well as imperial busts of Hadrian and Agrippina, and a collection of Ossónoba epigraphs.
