Most people familiar with Paixa owner João Lourenço remember his previous restaurant, the very popular Paixanito on the road to Querença near Loulé.  Portugal Confidential remembers it well.  It was one of the first places experienced when arriving in the Algarve two years ago.  It was small, rustic and traditional, with a long menu of regional dishes, extensive wine list, and excellent service. It was a favorite with the Portuguese, and a must-do for visitors.

However, in 2009, Lourenço decided to move his enterprise from rural hillside to manicured oceanfront resort.  Traditional gave way to modern minimalism.  Yet, the cuisine, the service and, especially the patrons, all followed Lourenço’s lead.  The current Paixa is better than ever.

House Specialties:  octopus salad with peppers , snails in garlic butter, pork ear with coriander , veal cakes, Oxtail croquettes , black sausage with apple , and partridge casserole
