The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC is celebrating Portuguese and Spanish culture….and Lisbon’s famous Tram 28 gets all dressed up for the party!

In actuality, in March, the renowned cultural center is presenting Iberian Suite: Global Arts Remix, a festival of dance, theatre, music and applied arts.  This installation, Prazeres 28 (“Pleasures 28”) by Portuguese artist Nuno Vasa, is featured in the exhibition.

Prazeres 28 is a cork replica of Tram 28, the iconic yellow electric tram that rolls through the streets of Lisbon, from Chiado to São Jorge Castle.  Vasa constructed Prazeres 28, with 3D implementation help from Carlos Paiva, and using black cork from Abrantes-based corkboard manufacturer Sofalca.  The cork is affixed to a metal based.
