He’s done it again. Portuguese chef Jose Avillez, who has that rare talent to be both a respected culinary artist and a popular restaurateur, has opened yet another dining spot in his home town of Lisbon. Café Lisboa is Avillez’s version of a traditional old world café, but with his own contemporary touch.
Musicians from all periods of time and from all over the world are in the Algarve for Summer 2013. Bono and BB King, Carmen Miranda and Amelia Rodrigues. They are appearing exclusively at Fiesa 2013. This annual Festival of Sand Sculpture takes place in the central Algarve town of Pêra until 25 October.
Cool, boutique, design hotels are springing up all over Portugal. In this case, a “beautique hotel” has sprouted at Praça da Figueira (“fig tree”), in the Baixa district of Lisbon and grown eight stories high. The Beautique Hotel Figueira is a four star hotel offering guests a unique ambiance, as well as a comfortable and restful experience.
Nights in Lisbon just became a little sexier (if that’s possible)! Lust Club is now open in the Terriero do Paço, just off the Praça do Comércio in the Baixa. The cool, trendy and in-the-know will want to be there. So will the hip, chic and terminally beautiful. But, the only ones getting past the entrance will be the one who are on the list.
Just a five-minute walk from Porto’s city center is one of the most magnificent book shops one can imagine, the Livraria Lello. The building first opened in 1906 and is designed by architect Xavier Esteves. The façade is a beautiful example of neo-gothic design, with just a hint of art nouveau.
