Austrian Weeks at the Biergarten in Porches, Algarve, through 1 April

Tired of pizza, sushi and bacalhau à brás? Go Austrian! It’s Austrian Weeks at the Biergarten!

Vila Vita Biergarten in Porches, Algarve, home to delicious Bavarian food, is offering something a little different. Until 1 April, the chefs at the Biergarten are preparing a special menu filled with Austrian favorites.

Try Wiener Backhendl (breaded chicken served with potato salad and lamb’s lettuce) and Tiroler Gröstl (a rustic combination of sautéed potatoes with veal, bacon and a fried egg), two traditional dishes from Alpine cuisine known for their comforting character and rich flavors.

To start the meal, the menu includes traditional soups such as Fritattensuppe (beef broth with strips of pancakes and chives) and Knoblauchsuppe (garlic soup with croutons).

Among the main dishes, there is also Zwiebelrostbraten (beef entrecôte with onion sauce served with sautéed potatoes and spring salad), as well as Erdäpfelgulasch, an aromatic potato goulash that represents a vegetarian option.

There are two classic suggestions to round out the meal. Choose between Kaiserschmarrn, Austrian pancakes served with apple compote, and Germknödel, a sweet bun filled with plum jam, poppy seeds and vanilla sauce.
