Just an hour north of Lisbon, Alenquer has become known as “nativity scene village” for its giant nativity scene. The figures reach six meters tall! Traditionally, the scene is mounted on the town’s hill. Yet, this is just one attraction in many at Alenquer Presépio de Portugal. The event runs 30 November to 6 January.
A Christmas Theme Park is open throughout the festive month in the Romeira Park. There’s a Santa Claus Square, Christmas market, nativity exhibition, carousel, ice rink, a Christmas train and a motorized nativity scene, among other attractions for children.

The Museu do Presépio (Nativity Museum) in the heart of the historic center, features nativity scenes on display, rotating throughout the year. All of them are true pieces of art created by the hands of artists, throughout time and dating back to the 16th century, and discovered in different regions of the country.

There are more free activities taking place around the town, such as concerts, stories and workshops.
