The Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort is perfectly situated on the rolling grounds of the Victoria golf course (home of the Portugal Masters), and just a short tuk-tuk ride away from the beautiful Falesia beach and popular Vilamoura marina entertainment complex.
The Anantara brand (owned by Minor Hotels, same parent company of Portugal’s Tivoli Hotels) is known for having some of the most luxurious, authentic resorts in Asia. This is the company’s first outpost in Europe and they very successfully adapted their model to the Portuguese culture.
Anantara worked with the local artisan collective TASA to design unique, regionally-inspired pieces throughout the hotel, such as hand-woven pool bags, locally sourced cork coasters, and Algarvian ceramic fruit bowls. Guests can attend workshops with the artisans.

Each of the 280 rooms and suites has updated soft touches reflecting the natural woods and fibers of the region. Deluxe rooms of 40m2 have views over gardens, swimming pools, and the fairways of the golf course. Select a Golf Suite and double the space to 80m2, with living and dining areas. The Victoria Suite, also with 120m2, features a separate dining area and terrace with outdoor fireplace. The Presidential Suite is a sprawling penthouse of 250m2 of with living, dining and bar areas, as well as an enviable rooftop terrace. All rooms come with complimentary wifi and smart phone.

The hotel prides itself on being family friendly and offers specifically-designed Family Suites, with double bedrooms. Attention is provided to kids of all ages through the Adventurers Crèche, Adventurers Kids Club, and The Hub for teenagers, where youngsters can take art and cooking classes, watch films outdoors, or participate in clinics in golf, football and dance.
Anantara’s Asian roots show heavily in the spa, with treatments such as Thai massage in specially designed Thai-style rooms and ancient Ayurvedic rituals—it’s the only spa in the region to offer them—as well as services that are more local in spirit, such as the signature massage using Algarvian citrus fruits, figs, and almond powder.

The wellness program also includes yoga and tai chi classes on a platform with a beautiful view over nature. For relaxation, and fun, there is one swimming pool for adults—with a partnership with Veuve Cliquot—and another for families, which is heated year-round (below). Guests also have use of the chic, Purobeach private beach and pool clubs on the Vilamoura beach.
The restaurants are unmistakably Portuguese, especially the wine-centric fine-dining outlet EMO, where the wine book has an eclectic and thoughtful list of more than 400 references, and RIA, which pays homage to the superb seafood that is found in the nearby Ria Formosa Natural Park. Even the breakfast at the Victoria restaurant is something special in the Algarve, complete with a croissant butler.

But ultimately, what makes Anantara resorts so special are their authentic experiences. At Vilamoura, that means a greeting with Ferrinhos (a typical Algarvian folk music instrument), and daily sunset ceremonies with Portuguese canapés and live fado music or Champagne sabering. There are also three “gurus,” specializing in golf, wine, and experience, who take guests to visit local wineries or explore the Ria Formosa. During the Spice Spoons experience, guests visit a nearby market with a chef and learn to cook Portuguese cuisine, and a unique Dining by Design concept, which allows guests to have private dinners with tailor-made menus in some of the most romantic and beautiful locations in the hotel.
