It took London-natives Hallie and Tim ten years to transform this former run-down farm into chic accommodations. Their creative vision and passion to build a relaxing innovative space is evident throughout. As well, they have succeeded in retaining the essence of a traditional farm while creating a modern, inviting mini-resort for sophisticated travellers.

Fazenda Nova Lounge and Bar

There are ten suites at this country house: seven garden suites, two apartments and one penthouse. Each suite is unique, due to its décor, garden or terrace access and view of the country. Apartments have kitchenettes open to the living area, and can interconnect to an adjoining suite to increase space for groups or families. The first floor penthouse has a spectacular private terrace with views around the countryside. A super-king size bed enhances the comfort of this special room. All accommodations are fitted with necessary modern conveniences.

Finer touches that make these rooms luxurious include Hypnos mattresses, Egyptian cotton bedding, Villeroy & Boch bathroom fittings, Hansgrohe rain drenching showers, and thick towels and robes.

If you are into design detail, you are really going to enjoy investigating every wall and shelf of Fazenda Nova. The owners have incorporated so many interesting items from around the world. The contempo chrome cantilever bedside reading lamps are from Italy. Refurbished armoires from China glisten with a fresh coast of lacquer. Some beds and room furniture are from Bali. Other bed headboards are repurposed window shutters from the Fazenda itself. Knick-knacks and wall décor are treasures collected from local and international flea markets.

After your detail tour, step outside for a grander view of things. Exterior spaces have been carefully thought out to provide unique experiences. A fire pit in front provides a warm setting for pre-dinner cocktails. The original bread oven, in a building of its own, creates a traditional backdrop for patio dining. A roof terrace with views from mountain to sea is perfect for sipping tea or reading a book from the Fazenda library. Hammock “pods” hanging from trees are a great escape for a quick nap. Refresh yourself in the infinity pool. Or, take a casual stroll around the landscaped grounds filled with olive and fruit trees, rosemary and lavender bushes, and vegetable gardens.

A Cozinha is the restaurant at Fazenda Nova. Freshness is the key ingredient in this kitchen specializing in Iberian flavors. Much of the produce is grown right in the Fazenda’s gardens. The chef takes daily trips to the fish market. Locally-produced meats, including Iberia’s pata negra ham, are delivered to the Fazenda. And, fresh breads are baked in the original Portuguese bread oven by former Fazenda resident Juliana.
