Flow Restaurant & Bar - Mediterranean Cuisine in the Baixa, Porto

It’s Mediterranean. It’s Portuguese. And, it’s sushi! Three favorite cuisines of Portugal under one roof. Flow Restaurant & Bar in the baixa (downtown) of Porto is where gourmet, art and social moments flow together into a complete dining experience. Flow is open for lunch and dinner at #63 on Rua da Conceição.

Flow is in a beautifully-restored neo-Arab style building in the historic center. What was once a ceramics factory, warehouse and showroom is now a sophisticated space split into three distinct environments—restaurant, bar and terrace. Many antique architectural elements of the original building are incorporated into the modern urban design.

Chef Rui Mingatos is responsible for a menu featuring Mediterranean cuisine. A few Portuguese favorites are also available for those who can’t live without bacalhau (cod fish) and other national dishes. Guests may also choose from an assortment of Japanese raw fish options, prepared by a specialist chef at the Flow sushi bar.

Some interesting items from recent menus include:

■ Gorgonzola and pear squash, with balsamic reduction and crunchy pancetta
■ Salad of prawns and citrus fruits, on pineapple carpaccio with chili vinaigrette
■ Chicken and mushroom linguine, with rosemary and hazelnuts tostadas
■ Wild mushroom risotto, with truffle paste, rosemary and hazelnuts
■ Bacalhau with beetroot risotto
■ Octopus with sweet potato puree
■ Fondant of “alheira of murça”, egg yolk, grelos and potato chips
■ White chocolate mousse, with lemon cream and raspberries
■ Pavlova of citrus fruits, with tangerine ice cream
■ Organic apple pie with vanilla ice cream
■ Caramel pudding

After the meal, head over to the bar for a delicious digestif. Or, on warm evenings, head outside to the rooftop terrace for delightful conversation and, perhaps, a glass of bubbly.
