The G comes from Geadas, the last name of esteemed chef Óscar Geadas (O Fradas) and his brother, António. But G Pousada is not just a homey family-run establishment—it’s a fine-dining restaurant that’s set to put Bragança on the culinary map. That’s especially true after Óscar earned his first star, in the 2019 Michelin Guide.
The concept is the traditional cuisine of the northeast region, with special attention paid to local products. Here in the mountainous interior, that means lamb with lentils, northern partridge, Bisaro pork, pigeon pate, and cod with Braganan beans. That said, this isn’t peasant food: everything is prepared with contemporary techniques and creativity.
António, the sommelier, has curated an excellent wine list of often-surprising wines from the region. In short, their philosophy is, “The closer, the better,” and here it’s very good indeed.
