Most know that Portuguese wines rank among the top in the world. Well, beer producers in Portugal are beginning to make a name for themselves too. With craft and microbreweries springing up in urban environments around the globe. It is no surprise, the city of Porto has a dedicated space featuring locally-produced beer.
Letraria Craft Beer Garden in Porto’s Baixa is both a social hangout as well as a showcase for Letra Cerveja Artisinal (“Letter” brand artisanal beer). The varieties of beer available (produced in the northern Portugal town of Vila Verde) is designated by a single letter:
Letter A (Weiss) | smooth with flavors and aromas of fruit
Letter B (Pilsner) | made with Saaz hops from the Bohemia region of the Czech Republic
Letter C (Stout) | intense with creamy foam, and aromas of coffee and caramel
Letter D (Red Ale) | intense and fruity with roasted touches
Letter E (Belgian Dark) | Belgian recipe with intense flavors and aromas
Letter F (India Pale Ale) | bitter spice with tropical and citrus aromas
The complete menu offers 20 artisanal beers produced in Portugal and available to enjoy.
Complement your suds with a board of sliced meat plates or, the local favorite, a Francesinha.
Letraria maintains a program of tastings, lectures, theme parties and entertainment.
