Sometimes, when the city becomes too hectic, or one’s life becomes too stressed, it’s nice to get lost in an environment of tranquility. Ideally, this place will ooze positive, healing energy by feeding the stomach, stimulating the senses and soothing the soul. Fortunately for those in Lisbon, there is such a place: Lost In.

To find this little bit of heaven in Portugal’s capitol city, make your way to the Príncipe Real district, just at the top of the Bairro Alto (see map). Along Rua Don Pedro V, look for the Lost In India Shop. It’s at Nº 56. Step into the shop.

First, you’ll likely to be entranced by the colors of the textiles and the aroma of incense. This seduction is only the teaser. Walk through the labyrinth of rooms filled with potpourri of Indian merchandise from silken fabrics to finished clothing, and ornamental slippers to colorful scarves. In the rear of the shop you will find the peaceful oasis.

In a town filled with awesome hilltop locations for beautiful views, the Lost In Esplanade Bar is surely in the top 10. Its terrace offers an expansive view of Lisbon’s hills and São Jorge castle. Large overhanging trees provide shade and a sense of security. It is a pleasant space for meeting friends, reading the newspaper, having an after-work drink, or grabbing a bite to eat.

The cuisine is light, to go with the uplifting atmosphere. Veggie burgers, curry shrimp, and baked bacalhau are on the menu as well as a selection of soups, salads and sandwiches. A nice selection of juices, teas and fruit cocktails add to the serenity of the terrace experience.
