As the year draws to a close, Cascais gains a compelling reason to linger indoors—with art. From December 6, 2025, through January 9, 2026, Lu Mourelle Art Gallery presents Interlumen, a group exhibition that brings together five distinct voices from Portugal’s contemporary art scene in a shared exploration of light, material, and expression.
The exhibition creates a fluid visual conversation across painting, sculpture, abstraction, and textile art. Jorge Humberto (JOH) blurs the line between two and three dimensions, introducing movement and sculptural presence into his work. Gallery founder Lu Mourelle contributes paintings defined by bold color and expressive female figures, while Saulo Silveira’s abstract compositions unfold through sweeping gestures and subtle tonal shifts. Using a kaleidoscope of color, Mariola Landowska paints cultural landscapes with a deftly restrained enthusiasm.

A more restrained yet equally striking contrast appears in the work of Luísa Pereira da Fonseca, whose black-and-white figures engage in quiet tension with pure geometric forms. Completing the ensemble is Estúdio Ohxoja, a textile art collective whose tactile pieces draw inspiration from the sea and the natural world, adding another sensory layer to the exhibition.
The title Interlumen speaks to more than illumination in the literal sense. It hints at an inner light—the creative impulse that guides each artist and invites viewers into a continuous exchange of perception. Seen together, the works reveal both contrast and harmony, encouraging slow looking and thoughtful engagement.
