Art and gastronomy intermingle at Oficina in Porto. Aptly named Oficina, a term in Portuguese used for a car repair garage, is in a restored car maintenance warehouse. This is the innovative starting point for a concept that intends to blend creative cuisine with the creative artistic process. The hip, cool space, designed by Paulo Lobo, blends old elements of the original building with new features for a modern urban look. Oficina is in Porto´s arts district at 273-282 Rua Miguel Bombarda.
Chef Marco Gomes is responsible for the kitchen. Hailing from northeastern Portugal, Gomes strives to prepare the best, most suitable and sometimes most daring local produce to extract generous flavor while utilizing contemporary techniques. With this in mind, expect to sample some of Porto’s traditional recipes, such as bacalhau, tripe, rabbit and tiger shrimp, in delicious, delightful concepts.
Sharing the same building is the Oficina Art Gallery. Owner Fernando Santos oversees the space “aimed at the stating of innovative proposals for contemporary art.”
