You know that we love Bairro do Avillez in Lisbon. The “neighborhood” of restaurants (all under one roof) from popular Portuguese chef José Avillez includes Taberna, Mini Bar and Pizzaria Lisboa. Also included in this gastro-collection is Páteo, “where fish and seafood are king, but meat also rules.”
Avillez built his Bairro by renovating a historic building on Rua Nova da Trindade in Lisbon’s chic Chiado area. The modern dining room is spacious with an open ceiling to the roof. Skylights add sunshine to lunches and romance to dinners. A first floor mezannine (housing Pizzaria Lisboa) surrounds the space, creating a cosmopolitan vibe.
The menu is pure Avillez. He designed the dishes for foodies who like to eat well but still be surprised. Imagine starting with Razor Clams with Garlic, Lemon and Bay Leaf, Stuffed Spider Crab, Café Lisboa Style, or Foie Gras Terrine, with Figs in Syrup and Brioche.
Settling into the meal, be tempted by Rich Seafood Rice, Braised Grouper, Grilled Octopus or Grilled Blue Lobster. Carnivores might opt for the Spoon-Tender Veal or the Alentejo Partridge. While, vegetarians can savor the Caponata with Lentils and Poached Egg and Mushroom Risotto with Basil.
