Plastic: An Inescapable Presence

Plastic fills every aspect of our daily lives, shaping our experiences and surroundings. Yet, plastic remains a complex material that is both essential and excessive, alluring yet perilous. Now, more than ever, it is important to understand the profound influence this artificial substance has had over its 150-year history.

Exploring Plastic’s Journey

Divided into three captivating sections, the exhibition provides visitors with a comprehensive understanding of plastic’s journey. The experience starts with a mesmerizing video installation, delving into the fundamental geological relationship between plastic and nature. This immersive introduction sets the stage for a deeper exploration of plastic’s origins and its evolution from natural materials to the advent of synthetic compounds during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The exhibition’s second section guides visitors through the growth of the petrochemical industry and its profound impact on the production and consumption of plastic.

Reimagining Plastic’s Future

In its final section, the exhibition takes stock of ongoing efforts to rethink plastic and develop sustainable alternatives. It explores strategies to reduce plastic production and consumption, as well as initiatives promoting its reuse.
