For over a century, the MICHELIN Guide has been the global benchmark for gastronomic excellence, awarding its coveted stars to restaurants that push the boundaries of culinary creativity and hospitality. Now, for the first time, the iconic red guide extends its discerning eye to the world of hospitality in Portugal—officially unveiling the inaugural selection of MICHELIN Keys, awarded to 55 extraordinary hotels across the country.



A New Era in Luxury Travel

From tranquil countryside retreats to opulent coastal resorts and design-forward urban hideaways, these hotels represent the best of Portugal’s hospitality scene. The MICHELIN Key system introduces a new international standard for hotel excellence, just as the Stars have long done for fine dining.

Selected independently by the MICHELIN Guide’s expert inspectors—through anonymous stays and meticulous evaluations—the awarded hotels are recognized not by status or prestige, but by the quality and character of the experience they offer. Each property is judged on five universal criteria:

  1. The hotel is a gateway to its destination.
  2. Excellence in interior design and architecture.
  3. Quality and consistency in service, comfort, and upkeep.
  4. Value for money in relation to the experience.
