Yes, you read that title correctly! Beach restaurants are plentiful in the Comporta region, but Praia na Comporta is different. It’s a warm oceanfront dining spot with a cool ski chalet vibe. Just image the surrounding sand dunes are snowbanks, and chill out in a warm and comfy, yet energetic, place to enjoy music, drinks and dining.
Leading the playful ambiance is none other than über-chic designer Philippe Starck. He’s created a mountain lodge environment intended to elicit the same fireside coziness, where friends and family meet to laugh and snuggle after a spirited day on the slopes. Skis and snowshoes hang on the walls while framed vintage ski photos sit on shelves.
You won’t miss the ocean effect, however. Windows surrounding the dining room offer views to the dunes and sea beyond, while allowing sea breezes in for an al fresco feel.
Although the menu is categorized into ski themes such as “Bunny Slopes” (“starters”), “Downhill” (“mains”) and “Cross-Country” (“steaks”), that’s where similarities to heavy mountain food ends. The cuisine at Praia na Comporta is a fresh and creative take on international favorites. Standouts from the menu include king crab in a carabineiro butter sauce, burrata al tartufo, and Niçoise salad with artichoke and bagna cauda. Mains range from lime risotto, with green apple and parmesan, to vegetarian tacos of tofu, sesame, peanut sauce and fried onion. Carnivores will be happy to choose from Black Angus ribeye, Chuletón, and premium Wagyu ribeye, among others. Complement the meal with a curated selection of cocktails, Portuguese wines and espumantes.
