Mark your calendar and save your appetite the Sardine Festival in Portimão returns in 2025. Always a highlight of the summer season in the Algarve, the Sardine Festival brings together warm summer nights, a favorite national food and superstar musical entertainment. Don’t miss the Sardine Festival, along the Adrade River in Portimão, 5-10 August.
Musical acts are featured throughout the evening on four different stages. Each night a famous Portuguese musical artist is featured at 22:00 on the Main Stage (Palco Principal). For 2025, star attractions are:

Of course, sardines are the main attraction at this festival. You can step into any number of restaurants across the city as they will be featuring this delicacy. Or, at the festival, the outside grills will be working at a furious pace. Find them riverside, next to Avenida Guanaré. Tickets for grilled sardines on a plate or on bread cab be purchased at points of sale:

Tickets for grilled sardines are €11.00. this buys you five grilled sardines, bread, baked sweet potato and the famous “Á Algarvia” salad. Drinks are not included.
If sardines are not your thing, have no fear. A variety of menus and local specialties are also available around the festival.

And, no festival would be a festival without stands of local artisans selling handicrafts, nibbles and regional sweets and street performers wandering the walkways.
