The magical village of Sintra, just outside Lisbon, is known for being the playground of Portuguese royalty, a Moorish fortress and a World Heritage site. It is full of architectural wonders. It is also home to an impressive collection of regional and national art, which can be found in the village at the Sintra Museum of Art.
The museum has made a home in the a very ornate 1920’s building, which is actually the former Sintra Casino.
Works on display include the collection of Portuguese artist, sculptor and collector Emílio de Paula Campos (1884-1943), a room dedicated to figurative and abstract sculptures by Dorita Castel-Branco (1936-1996), and numerous works of mid-century contemporary art, abstract art and photography by Portuguese and foreign artists residing in Portugal.
