Among Lisbon’s chic rooftop watering holes, the Sky Bar atop the Tivoli Avenida Liberdade hotel has long been one of the classics. What’s not to love? The view, over Rossio, the Santa Justa Lift, Castelo São Jorge, and the Rua Agusta Arch, takes in all of Lisbon’s greatest hits. The cocktails are good, the food is tasty, the DJs are good, and the crowd is grown-up and stylish.
After local “chef-preneur” Olivier da Costa turned the hotel’s top-floor restaurant into an outpost of his flashy, Brazil-born SEEN concept, the Sky Bar began morphing into an alfresco extension of the sleek dining room, even as it maintained its own independent identity.
But in summer 2020, everything is different. The original Sky Bar remains closed based on preventive measures from the health authorities. Instead, a few small, private parts of the terrace are used as an extension of the restaurant, with a bar bites menu and a smart list of craft cocktails, devised by head bartended Lucas Jaques, available from 4pm onward.
