Urban [R]Evolution – Urban Art Exhibition at Cordoaria Nacional in Lisbon, through 3 December

Urban [R]Evolution is a major exhibition, presented by Everything is New and Underdogs Gallery, celebrating the rise and popularity of urban art.  The show offers a look at the origins of the contemporary art form and features original installations by 18 national and international urban artists. Urban[R]Evolution runs through 3 December at the Cordoaria Nacional in Lisbon.

Urban(R)Evolution chronicles the development of urban art, beginning with its early stages as tags, graffiti, and subway pieces, progressing through the influential middle period in which graffiti art penetrated pop culture, and, eventually, giving rise to street art.  A review of the inception and evolution is depicted via documentary imagery of North American photographer Martha Cooper

Curators Pauline Foessel and Pedro Alonzo have selected artists with very unique styles and techniques for Urban[R]Evolution.  Works are showcased in immersive spaces, created specifically for this exhibition, by such noted artists as Vhils, Add Fuel, Shephard Fairey and Wasted Rita.  All artists participating include:

The revolutionary aspect of the show focuses on the accessibility and acceptability of urban art today by both art aficionados and the general public.  And, artists trained in painting with spray paint on city walls are now creating on more traditional, as well as unique, surfaces using diverse media and techniques.
