Discover the Christmas Market
Immerse yourself in the festive spirit at the Christmas Market in the heart of Viseu. Wooden houses adorned with holiday cheer will line Rossio and Rua Direita, offering a delightful array of regional products. From traditional sweets, liqueurs, and Dão Wines to handmade crafts and more, the market is a perfect destination for filling your Christmas table or finding unique gifts for loved ones.
A Symphony of Lights
On November 29th, Christmas officially begins with the tunring on of lights at 17:00 in the Praça da República. This year, Viseu is preparing for a light show that will illuminate the city with approximately 380,000 low-consumption LED bulbs. The decorative lighting pieces will be distributed across 31 locations, bringing a festive and sustainable atmosphere to those who visit and live in the city. In total, around 220 light structures will be installed, totaling 32 kilometers of string lights.
Harmony in the Air
Prepare for entertianment! Highlights include two great classics of the season: the Christmas concert of the Municipality of Viseu, with the Youth Orchestra and the Choirs of Viseu, on December 21st, at the Multiusos de Viseu; and the New Year and King’s Day concert, with the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, on January 3rd, at the Viriato Teatro Municipal.
On the Mercado 2 de Maio stage, there will also be four concerts and musical shows to highlight. The Christmas stage will open with a performance by Vox Visio Coral on November 29; followed by Banda Entr’Amigos on December 7; the show “Viagem Sonora”, with Inês Simões and pianist Paulo Lima, on December 22; and a concert by Coro Mozart on Christmas Eve, on the 24th.
Family-Friendly Festivities
VISEU NATAL is crafted with the little ones in mind. The Municipal Museums and D. Miguel da Silva Library will host a variety of workshops, story times, and theater shows, offering children and families a chance to create, learn, and have fun together. Santa Claus Village on Rua Direita is a must-visit, where the “lord of the white beard” eagerly awaits to hear children’s wishes.
Street Magic and Entertainment
Experience the unexpected as Viseu comes alive with street performances, circus arts, mischievous elves, and more. The city’s corners will be filled with laughter and joy as entertainers interact with the public, creating a festive atmosphere for all.
Spread the Joy
In the true spirit of Christmas, Viseu extends its celebrations to support noble causes. Join the Viseu XMAS RUN on December 22nd, a solidarity run and walk, and attend the 13th APPACDM Viseu Solidarity Gala on December 9th at Viriato Teatro Municipal.
All Aboard the Christmas Train
Throughout the festivities, hop on the Christmas Train departing from Rossio daily. Let it be your magical transport to explore the city, soak in the festive lighting, and savor the enchantment of the season. The train runs daily at 10:00, 11:00, 15:00, 16;00, 17:00 and 18:00.
Ring in 2025 in Style
The farewell to 2025 takes center stage at Campo de Viriato, with a stunning view of the skies of Viseu and the skyline of the Historic Center. Portuguese rapper Plutonio will take the main stage as the headliner of this great New Year’s Eve celebration. The singer of “Alô”, “Somos Iguais” and “Acordar” is a phenomenon in Portuguese hip-hop, considered one of the “most versatile artists in the Portuguese-speaking world”. A 15-minute musical fireworks display is scheduled for midnight to celebrate the arrival of the new year.
On New Years Day, celebrate the beginning of 2025 with the sounds of DJ The Boss.
