As part of the iconic, 85-year-old Tivoli Avenida Liberdade’s 2017–18 renovation, the spa—already one of the finest in Lisbon—got an Asian inflected update. This not only gave it a different outlook on wellness but also propelled into one of the world’s best spa brands, the Thai-based Anantara. (Portugal’s Tivoli and Asia’s Anantara share the same parent company.)
This isn’t just our assessment. Anantara was named the World’s Best Hotel Spa Brand at the 2017 World Spa Awards. So, having an outpost in central Lisbon is a big deal.
It is the third Anantara Spa in Portugal, following the opening of the Anantara Spas at Tivoli Palacio de Seteais in Sintra and Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort. Like the others, it takes a holistic, Eastern approach to restorative healing experiences, self-care, and the union and body and mind. Thai trainers came to teach the therapists healing arts like Thai massage and poultice rubs.
Of course there are still plenty of Western-style massages, body treatments, and other services. The facials are done with the cult-favorite French line Biologique Recherche, one of the most results-oriented brands around.
