The Council of Albufeira is ready for Carnaval! Not only will they host celebrations in the city center, but festivities will also take place further afield in the council in the cities of Paderne and Ferreiras. The parties run from 10, 12 & 13 February.
Albufeira
Albufeira’s Carnaval can be found in the Espaço Multiusos de Albufeira (EMA), 10, 12 and 13 Feb. All revelers are welcome in an environment were the focus is on color, laughs and fun! For the first three days, a “Carnaval Ball” is the party to attend, from 21:00 to 03:00. So, on the last day, the 13th, a “Matinee” will take place form 14:00 to 20:00, with a mask competition for children up to 12 years.
On Saturday the 10th, at 14:30 the parade starts in the Telheiro of the old fish square, in Largo Cais Herculano The route passes along Rua São Gonçalo de Lagos, Rua Cândido dos Reis, Travessa Cândido dos Reis, Largo Engº Duarte Pacheco, Rua Joaquim Manuel de Mendonça Gouveia, Rua 5 de Outubro, Travessa 5 de Outubro, Meia Laranja, Rua Alves Correia, Rua Ferreira de Castro and ends at Avenida 25 de Abril, in front of the old cinema.
This is followed by the party, at 3:30 pm, with Dj Zé Black and the dancers from Companhia Danzarena, on Rua 5 de Outubro.
Paderne
As the “oldest parade in Albufeira council,” Paderne decorates the streets and shops with streamers and confetti from 11th to 13th. More than 200 revelers in costumes on the street and in cars will make their way down the main street of the historic village. Paderne’s festivities run daily from 14:00 to 18:00.
Ferreiras
The municipality of Ferreiras also gets into the act. From 14:00 to 17:00, on the 11th to the 13th, the town hosts the “Carnaval Trapalhão.” Revelers walk down Avenida 12 de Julho, from Rua da Estação to the Municipal Market, twice in a row. Partiers dance to the sound of traditional Portuguese music, celebrating the season.
