When it opened in 2012, the Conrad Algarve immediately became the premier destination for travellers seeking exclusive accommodations in Portugal’s southern region, as well as for locals desiring fine dining and sophisticated meetings spots for socializing. Today, the Conrad Algarve maintains and, if possible, has improved on its allure, by continually fine-tuning the diversity of offerings and elevating the quality of service.
Driving through the monumental gates of the Conrad Algarve and up the long driveway bordered with water fountains, the exclusiveness of this hotel is immediately evident. The architects’ vision for the resort is a contemporary interpretation of an 18th century palace or mansion. The hotel is “presented” at the end of the drive as a grand estate, with a full height glass and white marble drum at its center. Entering the hotel, a four-story open rotunda greets guests, with the entire glass rear wall providing a massive picture window to the terraces, pool and rolling country hills beyond.
Once you’ve taken in the overall grandeur of the Conrad Algarve, the smaller details begin to reveal themselves. The innovative interior design is that of Paris-based Miguel Cancio Martins (the designer behind such amazing spaces as the Buddha Bar in Paris, Pacha in Marrakech and W Hotel in Montréal. The stunning and stylish staff uniforms are the creations of top Portuguese fashion designer Fatima Lopes. There are occasional furniture pieces from renowned contemporary furniture company Boca do Lobo. And, original works of art adorn the walls from respected consultant ArtCatto.
There are 154 guest rooms in the resort. All are richly designed with wood and stone, as well as a variety of lush fabrics. Deluxe rooms are 38m2. Grand Deluxe are 45m2. Both room types are equipped with 42” high-definition flat screen TV, DVD player, MP3 sound system, wifi, mini bar and Nespresso coffee maker. Bathrooms feature separate bathtub with television and showers with rainfall shower heads. Thick soft robes and slippers are provided for an extra level of comfort.

For guests requiring a little more space, Conrad Algarve has three 70m2 suites, with king size bed, separate living room and walk in wardrobes. The Conrad Suite is 101m2 of luxury, with king size bed, spacious living area and private dining room. Guests also receive the services of a personal host.
The ultimate in luxury is reserved for the 300m2 Garden Roof Suite. This sanctuary features an infinity pool inside the living area with wide open views to the country beyond. This space also features its own dining room, kitchen, sauna and steam bath, private access, private parking, 180m2 roof terrace and an the services of a personal host.
Connoisseurs of wine and cuisine will be delighted with the selection of restaurants at Conrad Algarve. Gusto by Heinz Beck, received a Michelin star in 2018. Signature Chef Beck has received numerous accolades in his career, including three Michelin stars while at La Pergola at the Rome Cavalieri Hilton Hotel. Executing Beck’s vision of haute Mediterranean cuisine is Chef Daniele Pirillo, who has trained alongside the master chef at La Pergola.
Adjacent to the restaurant is the Gusto Bar. This swanky space is where multi award-winning mixologist Nelson Matos hosts and entertains guests. Matos has the unique ability to create delectable and mesmerizing cocktails, perfect for after work, pre-dinner, evening socializing and long chats into the night. Elsewhere in the resort, Louro Restaurant offers another option of elegant, fine dining. Chef Osvalde Silva prepares traditional Portuguese cuisine using inspiring ultra-modern techniques. The result is a delicious journey of Portuguese products and flavors, with a heavy dose of artistic flair. Louro is open for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is also the location for the Conrad Algarve’s generous breakfast buffet.
The poolside Dado Restaurant and Bar is perfect for afternoon munchies. Prawn skewers or meat kebabs are served straight off the barbeque, and fresh salads are prepared with local produce. In the Lago Lounge, just off the main lobby, enjoy the Conrad Algarve’s innovative twist on high tea, which they have re-imagined and renamed Sweet & Salt “Tea”!
