These days, there’s something deeply comforting about a grand hotel that has been around for decades. There’s also something deeply seductive about one that has recently been restored to (a level beyond) its former glory. The Infante Sagres fits the bill in both ways.
The hotel opened in 1951, with an aim to be on par with the finest hotels in Europe. It has gorgeous ironwork, a lot of red velvet, and some stunning stained glass panels in the grand staircase.
The 75 rooms and 10 suites offer old-school luxury, with luxe fabrics, natural wood, and marble finishes.
Downstairs, the restaurant aims to be a bit more contemporary—it’s called the Vogue Café & Bar and represents a partnership with a magazine of the same name. There are archival fashion photos on the walls, and am emphasis on modern, prettily presented dishes in the kitchen.
