A new cultural center is launched in one of Lisbon’s fasted-changing and coolest neighborhoods. The Marvila Art District is a new concept cultural center focusing on contemporary art created by young artists (many from Portuguese-speaking countries). MAD partners, MOVART Art Gallery and Reward Properties, aim to break the stereotypes of museums and “white-cube” galleries, with a multi-faceted center.
Marvila is quickly attracting the creative set. Over the last few years, the abandoned warehouse district has become revitalized with urban art galleries, craft breweries, art studios and funky restaurants. MAD will surely be a cornerstone for this artistic growth.
In 2015, MOVART began promoting Angolan contemporary artists from its gallery on the Marginal of Luanda. The gallery is a frequent exhibitor at international art fairs in New York, London, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Miami and Madrid. In 2019, MOVART opened a sister gallery in Lisbon.
