Portugal-based video-mapping legends Ocubo, the team behind the award-winning Lisbon Under Stars, has developed a new multi-sensory extravaganza. Porto Legends – The Underground Experience, brings legends of the port city to life in a sight and sound spectacular in the Furnas (underground) of the Alfândega do Porto old customs house. There are nine 45-minute shows running daily, Tuesday to Sunday.
Porto Legends reveals the history of Porto, through captivating stories of some of the real-life characters and cultural icons that help shape the city, including:
■ Pedro Cem, the rich and greedy merchant from Porto, who lost 100 ships in a storm and became Pedro Sem
■ Zé do Telhado, the bandit who met novelist Camilo Castelo Branco in the prison of Relação
■ Mystery of the Serra do Pilar Treasury
■ Violent siege of Porto
■ The Ghost of São Bento Station
■ Even, Porto-style tripe!
■ And more….
English narration of the show is provided by Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Irons. Portuguese voicing is provided by popular music artist Pedro Abrunhosa.
The venue itself, Furnas da Alfândega, adds to the richness of the show. It’s a mysterious place full of columns, arches and tunnels. The show features video mapping on the walls, floor, and ceilings of the space, as well as using, for the first time in Portugal, a set of 20 holographic screens where projected videos take on a ghostly dimension.
