Restaurant Cavalariça in Comporta & Lisbon

Cavalariça has a new location in Lisbon. See details below

With a big city pedigree, Cavalariça is a hip, chic restaurant in a former horse stables in the stylish summer vacation spot of Comporta. Both Chef Bruno Caseiro and Pastry Chef Filipa Gonçalves spent time working in the competitive London restaurant scene. They’ve returned to their native Portugal to present a cosmopolitan approach to traditional products and flavors of the Alentejo region.

Cavalariça in Portuguese means stables. An apt name for Cavalariça in Comporta, as the restaurant itself is inside a renovated horse stables. Former horse stalls are transformed into private booth seating. Sturdy calçada-like tiles remain on the floor. And, open barn-style shutters frame the windows.

Chef Caseiro brings an abundance of experience and passion to the kitchen. After completing courses at Hotelaria school, he quickly set out in the world and found mentors in Nuno Mendes (Chiltern Firehouse, London), Nuno Diniz (Tágide, Lisbon), Tom Sellers (Restaurant Story, London), Leandro Carreira (Londrino, London), António Galapito (Prado, Lisbon). These impressive apprenticeships led to innovation dishes such as Pumpkin Tortellini, Watercress and São Jorge cheese, or Pork Presa, Chimichurri, Garlic, as well as Gyoza, Chilli and Spring Onion (pictured below).

A former graphic designer Gonçalves took cooking courses and was enticed by the sweet side of cuisine. No doubt, her eye for design is evident in the presentation of the delightful desserts, including in this strawberry and vinegar favorite.

Accompanying the team is mixologist extraordinaire Fábio Nobre. He’s responsible for making certain the beverages provide a seamless bridge between Caseiro’s dishes and the fresh, light environment of the beaches and rice fields of Comporta.
