Restaurant São João - Alentejana Food Comporta

It’s traditional in every way. Traditional white with yellow trim façade. Traditional white walls and wooden tables interior. And, a menu of traditional regional cuisine just like your Alentejana Tia Ilda used to make. It’s Restaurante São João in the center of Comporta, and it’s the favorite spot among locals and visitors for good home-style Portuguese cooking.

We’re talking about octopus rice, prawn rice, grouper rice, seafood rice (below) and a large choice of cataplanas. There’s also Alentejo pork and clams, Portuguese mussels and a selection of grilled fresh fish of the day. For carnivores, a variety of meat and poultry dishes are also available. Don’t forget to save room for the chocolate mousse, strawberry cheesecake, egg pudding or lime and cream tart (bottom).
