Just when Lisbon’s rooftop scene seemed set and nearly saturated, along comes a new one that is getting everyone talking.
The Altis Avenida Lisbon hotel, on Praça dos Restauradores, already had a perfectly pleasant terrace at the top-floor hotel restaurant. It was nice, but not exactly a destination. That changed when the hotel acquired roof rights to the building next door.
They turned that space into a sexy, Art Deco bar, with green velvet chairs, sleek lines everywhere, and killer views over its namesake, Praça do Rossio, as well as the river, the Santa Justa Lift and the Rua Augusta Arch.
Chef João Correia, executive chef of the Hotel, is the one who heads the kitchen team. The creativity of this menu is not just its selection of dishes, but also all the detail of the choice of tableware and cutlery handmade by artisans and designers such as Studioneves, Sara Bozzini’s Morsa and Rival’s wooden cutlery.
The small share plates work as snacks if you have dinner plans, but they’re good enough that maybe you should cancel your plans. There are some Feitoria classics, such as the crunchy prawn with coriander and the hand of Buddha with false cherries. There are also dreamy, comforting bowls, such as the Arouquesa beef tartare with caviar, and the excellent vegetarian version, with cauliflower, sesame seed, chickpeas, and hazelnut.
